5 Tips for a better bedroom

A bedroom should be cosy, comfortable, and a quiet place to sleep and rest well. We tend to use our bedroom for other purposes like reading, working, and watching TV but above all, it should be a haven for sleep. We need around 8 to 10 hours of sleep every night, besides that, we also use the room to rest, and relax at any time of the day. Hence, the bedroom is the space where we spend most time of our lives.

Let’s look at some tips to make our bedroom where we can relax and unwind ourselves.

  1. A firm and comfortable mattress – Sleep is essential to lead a healthy lifestyle. A person requires approximately 8 to 10 hours of sleep. A good sound sleep helps you to function optimally throughout the day. To get a good night sleep, invest in a good mattress. A comfortable mattress and pillow with the right firmness matter a lot for a sound sleep. An uncomfortable mattress and pillow can lead to disturbed sleep and pain especially on your neck and shoulder. It is important to buy a mattress of a perfect size (King, queen, or full). Before buying, step into a store and try the mattress. Don’t hesitate to lie down on the mattress to check the comfort of the mattress.
  2. Lighting of the room – A room should have functional windows to transform into a dark room, and when required you could have sufficient light in the room. For an undisturbed and sound sleep, it is advisable to have a dark room. To shut off the light, use blackout blinds or curtains to block any light coming through your window while you’re asleep. Also, during the day allow sufficient sunlight to come in through the window to brighten up your room for freshness and liveliness in the room.
  3. Attached bathroom – Nowadays, most bedrooms have attached bathrooms, especially master bedrooms. En-suite bathrooms are convenient to go in for a quick shower before you go to bed. A shower before bed will unwind and relax your body and will give you a good sound sleep.
  4. Right temperature – Your bedroom should have the right temperature for you to fall asleep. If it is too hot or cold, it would be uncomfortable and difficult to fall asleep. Have your thermostat or air conditions at the right temperature that suits your body, so that you don’t wake up in the middle of the night sweating or freezing.
  5. Relaxing and soothing colours – Avoid painting your bedroom with extremely bright colours like red or purple. It is critical that your bedroom has soothing colours. If you still like some dark colours, you can play with colours by mixing dark colours with light or pale colours. However, use the colour combination wisely. For instance, use dark colours for your pillow cover or wall painting or artwork while the major part of the room occupies the lighter colour.

A bedroom is your personal space. Design it with minimum furniture that is essential for your bedroom. Besides having a bed, a wardrobe, a clock, and a dressing table would be essential in a bedroom. Avoid clutter. It may cause uneasiness and sleep deprivation. A bedroom should be a reflection of your personality and style. Design it according to your style, with comfort as the most important element.
